Detecting a nonzero EDM would reveal new sources of CP violation, offering clues to the Universe\u2019s matter\u2013antimatter imbalance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"874\" height=\"464\" src=\"http:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm1.png 874w, https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm1-300x159.png 300w, https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm1-768x408.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 874px) 100vw, 874px\" \/><figcaption><br><br><em>Fig. 1 \u2013 schematic of the muEDM setup<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In preparation for the experiment\u2019s Phase I, we have developed and validated a fast muon trigger detector and its front-end electronics, essential for capturing muons entering the storage solenoid and synchronizing the activation of a pulsed magnetic kicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step, reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s41605-025-00570-4\"><em>Radiation Detection Technology and Methods<\/em> (2025)<\/a>, described the design and beam testing of a prototype trigger detector consisting of a 100 \u00b5m-thin gate scintillator and a surrounding telescope array, both read out by silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). Using 27.5 MeV\/c muons at PSI\u2019s \u03c0E1 beamline, the team measured high timing precision, optimal light yield, and excellent agreement with Geant4 simulations, confirming the system\u2019s ability to select storable muons while rejecting background particles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"904\" height=\"422\" src=\"http:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm2.png 904w, https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm2-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/web.tdli.sjtu.edu.cn\/kimsiang84\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/11\/Pictureedm2-768x359.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 904px) 100vw, 904px\" \/><figcaption>Fig. 2 \u2013 the proof-of-concept trigger detector setup.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Building on this foundation, the collaboration developed the fast front-end readout electronics, presented in <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1109\/TNS.2025.3578674\"><em>IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science<\/em> (2025)<\/a>. The compact system integrates preamplifiers, discriminators, and anti-coincidence logic operating inside a 3 T magnetic field, achieving a total signal latency below 15 ns.
